Adrian Smith
Adrian Smith is a consultant with Unique Improvements, a North West based social enterprise specialising in community engagement, social marketing and health improvement work. He has held various positions in NHS organisations and was Assistant Director with the National Primary Care Development Team where he worked on national health improvement programmes designed to engage disadvantaged communities and services to reduce health inequalities.
Steven Johnson
Steven Johnson is Creative Director at award-winning social marketing and behaviour change consultancy, The Hub.
Since launching the company in 2004 he has been responsible for leading a vast range of behaviour change programmes, receiving recognition from the Design Business Association, IPA, AHC, D&AD, How-Do and the German Design Council along the way.
Dr Ray Lowry
Dr Ray Lowry, a qualified doctor and dentist, completed formal training in public health and became an NHS consultant in 1990. Until he retired in 2010 he was a senior lecturer in dental public health at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He is on the specialist registers for medical and dental public health and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health. He has published over 50 articles in the learned press. He was the training director for public health in the Northern Region and an examiner for the Faculty of Public Health. He now devotes most of his working time to social marketing: helping health service commissioners undertake interventions, teaching and consultancy; and after-dinner speaking.
Patrick Ladbury
An innovative senior manager of third sector services, who is experienced in developing, implementing and evaluating organisational strategies and projects. Experienced in all areas of the charity sector including fundraising, marketing, budgeting, staff and volunteer management, training, materials development and service delivery.
Dr Rupert Suckling

David leads both the Institute’s Research and Information and Learning and Development divisions. He is responsible for thought-leadership, policy development and external affairs.
Jeanette Livings
Jeanette has worked in the PR and marketing field since graduating with a degree in French from the University of Leeds. She began her career in the private sector working for HarperCollins Publishers and then a specialist arts PR agency in London before moving to Stockport Council’s press office in 2003.
Julie Grimmer
Julie Grimmer is a Programme Manager for North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus, specialising in community engagement, social marketing and health inequalities. She has worked for all of her working life in the National Health Service, holding various roles, mostly within the primary care setting.
